Weekly Photo Challenge: Let There Be Light!

Tonight was the last night of Hanukkah, the Festival of Lights...

Hanukkah menorah

Our Hanukkah menorah

Hanukkah is the Jewish holiday commemorating the re-dedication of the Second Temple in Jerusalem at the time of the Maccabean Revolt against the Seleucid Empire in the 2nd century BCE.  Hanukkah is observed for eight nights and days, starting on the 25th day of Kislev according to the Hebrew calendar, which may occur at any time from late November to late December.  This year Hanukkah coincided with the holiday of Thanksgiving here in the U.S.

Don’t let the light go out…

Now as we put away the menorah, we get out the Christmas lights because as a Christian family with Jewish heritage, we also celebrate Christmas and the “Light” who came into the world.
