Mahonia

The berries of the evergreen shrub Mahonia are edible and rich in vitamin C.  Who knew?  If the birds don’t get to them first, they will turn a blue-black color, but right now they’re a beautiful (and poisonous-looking) green.  Mahonia is native to North and Central America, eastern Asia, and the Himalayan region.   Once planted, Mahonias have the habit of popping up all over the place here in my corner of North Georgia.
