My husband planted a trumpet vine by our old shed many years ago. I don’t remember ever seeing it bloom until this year. So far it has had three blooms, one after the other, with each bloom waiting to open until the previous bloom has died. Linked to Cee’s Flower of the Day.

This looks like Autumn foliage, doesn’t it? Actually, it’s the late Spring foliage of the Loropetalum shrub, also known as the Chinese Fringe Flower shrub. Earlier in the season the leaves were a dark purple color, but as the flowers faded, the leaves took on more of this Autumn-like hue.

Although it looks somewhat like a hydrangea, the snowball bush is a viburnum. The blooms start out green and then turn white. Our snowball bush was full of blooms this year, and our sweet neighbor girl asked if she could cut some for her mom. Of course I was glad for her to do so….
